That's Okay With Me

I'm Incredibly Overwhelmed

I’m realizing more and more that life is incredibly stressful. It doesn’t have to be that way though. As time goes on, my schedule is becoming increasingly hectic. The stress doesn’t have to get to me though. All I have to do is enjoy everything that I do.

My first job is a student. I am a part time student. I am taking six credits at my local community college. I love my classes and they are really rewarding. However, I have to wake up at 5:20 AM. The reason that I wake up that early is because I have to take two buses to get to class. The buses where I live aren’t reliable. Early in the morning is the best time to get the bus. Class starts at 8 AM on Mondays and Wednesdays. My other class starts at 8:30 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I’m out of class by 11:00 the latest.

I’m employed part time also. Bath and Body Works in the mall is where I work. It’s not the greatest because I’m always on call. Sometimes, I go a week without working. It’s stressful because I don’t have a steady stream of income coming in. My goal is to save up enough money to move out of my childhood home and into a modest apartment in a metropolitan area. I’m not sure where yet. Moving out of the suburbs of New York is my dream right now.

I’m also a writer. Not only do I write for The Odyssey, I also am a fiction writer. I decided to do National Novel Writing Month. The end goal for NaNoWriMo is to write a 50,000 word draft of a novel that’s completely original. I have attempted one other time. I only wrote about 23,000 words. It was about authors coming back from the dead and the feeling of horrific embarrassment that overtook them. I have since forgot about that novel.

This November, I am going to take on the challenge again. It’s going to be a daunting challenge. I have never attempted NaNoWriMo in my college career. However, I feel 100 percent ready to do this. I have a team of people willing to support me no matter what. If I don’t meet the word goal.

Even though I have a lot of stuff going on, I am optimistic and hopeful. I believe in myself and my ability to get things done.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
