A Letter To The Incredible Women In My Life
Arianna Saxton

My first time away from home, and the family that has made me feel safe and loved my entire life has led me to really reflect upon my memories with those who are the most important to me. You truly do not realize what you have until it is not so easy to access, and I find myself missing what I never expected more than anything, and yearning to relive certain memories just to make sure I never forget them.

I feel incredibly grateful for my childhood, but particularly those who were the most influential in raising me and giving me so many experiences that I will treasure forever, knowing that they truly come one in a million.

I am so blessed to have been surrounded by such powerful women throughout my youth, shaping me into the strong woman I am today. The wisdom and guidance they have provided have acted as a light when I am feeling torn or helpless, as I know I will always have the support of those who have experienced and persevered through what I feel is impossible.

Grandma, I have always looked up to you for your grace, sensitivity, and endless compassion for others. It is an absolute honor to me when people say that my personality is like yours in any way. I wish I could remember every single word of your advice and wisdom to carry with me when I need guidance, but I will never forget the memories we have made together that have been some of the greatest in my life.

You are one of the few people that I have always felt truly understood me, and I trust you with the words I am afraid to admit out loud because I know that you never judge or search for flaws. Thank you for demonstrating to me how a real man treats a woman; with true respect, sensitivity, and generosity. Witnessing your relationship with Grandpa has shown me that manners are not an "old fashioned" ideal, and endless respect and commitment to the one you love are timeless.

Mimi, I received my love of family from you, as you are truly the glue that holds our family together. You encourage us to always support and respect each other and remind us that unlike most things in life, the family is forever, and we are responsible for being there for each other throughout difficult times.

Throughout my life, you have been always supported and encouraged me to achieve in school, and personally to be strong. I have always known that I could rely on you to be my support system and a voice of wisdom throughout my life, pushing me to be the best version of myself. You would truly do anything for your family, even if it means sacrificing your own happiness for the happiness of someone you love because you love fiercely and unconditionally.

Mom, I have boundless respect for all you have accomplished personally as well as professionally, as one of the few women in a primarily male-dominated industry and being incredibly successful despite that. I hope to follow in your footsteps and make you just as proud of my accomplishments as I am to be your daughter, and of everything you have overcome.

Your intuition and grit inspire me in every facet of my life, and you remind me that I can accomplish absolutely anything despite any obstacles I experience. You command the respect of everyone you can encounter and have taught me to do the same even if it means having to work twice as hard as those around me.

Your persistence and determination to succeed have led you to break boundaries and surpass expectations, and I aspire to do the same and earn the success that you have. Thank you for our long talks, and your advice in times when I am unsure of the next step.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
