Where did the time go? How in the world did we become seniors IN COLLEGE? It feels like high school graduation was yesterday and now we sit here in our last week of junior year, cramming for finals and preparing for the last year of the best time of our lives.
From the first steps into your crummy college dorm room that was way too small for comfort with a complete stranger to soon enough being considered old and irrelevant.
Did you do everything you wanted to do? Did you complete your college bucket list?
Whether your “bucket list” consisted of getting a 4.0 every semester or stealing that one fraternity composite, did you do it?
This is your final year, your last chance to finish your college legacy off strong. What are you going to leave it as?
I’ve decided, and suggest this to my peers, to make this the year of the YES. Whatever it is, a spontaneous weekend trip to another town or just a random coffee date with someone you’re not all that close with, DO IT.
As we grow up time goes by faster and each year becomes a smaller fraction of our lives. Life is too short to not take on and experience all opportunities offered.
Growing up we were told high school was “the best four years of our lives” but we all know that’s a damn lie. There is never a time like this where you will live on your own, be able to pull all-nighters for 3 days straight and still manage to go out after all that with your friends AND still make it on time to your exam the next morning. Weekends will become our only free time soon enough and the people we see every day will soon only be there for reunions and vacations.
The people we meet in college and the memories we make are the things we will be telling our kids about one day. These people will be at our weddings and the true friendships will really last a lifetime.
Writing this as an incoming college senior scares the crap out of me, to think in one short year I will be a full-time adult with a full-time job and a regular sleeping schedule. It still doesn’t make sense to me but we don’t really have a choice and we can’t slow down time. So join me and take on this year as the year of the YES. We owe ourselves and our legacy that much.
