Water: Essential to all life, yet it can take it all away, just as it gives.
Let's just say the world is like a dirty fish tank. There are many fish in this tank who lack direction, their vision not clear. Food is sparse and the filters which are supposed to clean the water are fixed with a shotty "kick the can down the road" mindset. Every now and then, one of these fish claim power through whatever the other fish deem valuable. Maybe this fish can speak very well, good at fish sports, holds all of the fish money or maybe they're just funny. And, every now and then, they come and throw fish flakes to the hungry, giving unattainable glimmers of hope. They bring in a fancy new filter to clean the water, but it's all for show; it'll start breaking down in about a week.
In this tank, you then have to hire fishes to maintain this filter until of course you can't afford to pay them anymore because 1 percent of the fish have all of the fish money. And until the tank gets so dirty that by cleaning it, it would boost the smooth talking fish's popularity amongst the inferior fish, it is fixed momentarily. The less powerful majority of the fish begin to accept their expendability to the pond and lose hope. The glimmer of hope in their eyes begins to fade, forever. And day by day, it gets darker for most until most fish are at the mercy of the powerful few. There is a clear illusion of freedom and of hope. But all of the fish made the tank dirty and no one cared until they lost vision. Now let's just say this fish tank is the world. Yeah, that's it.
Income inequality, rather inequality in general, has clouded our judgment as people, as a nation. Even as young adults issues like this should matter. Because one day, being that fish could be any of us. Clouded by empty promises of those who promise us a better world. It's time we take action the young people, the fish, the majority.
