In five days, the new president of this country will be inaugurated. Some people are happy, and others are completely afraid. I, personally, get more and more afraid as the day gets closer. My feelings are torn, and my mind is broken into pieces. I don't understand how people could have voted for the man that is to become our president. I am left speechless. I fear for the new changes that are to come to this country. I fear for the problems that our new president will bring to a lot of innocent people in this country. People who work hard, who have families, and who have learned to love and live in this country. Their lives will change, my families life will change, but most importantly, my life will change. I have never been the type of person that constantly thinks or worries about their future; I like to live in the moment. But lately, because of the inauguration, I can't help but constantly think about my future. I can't help but be afraid of what the future will hold for me, what it will hold for this country.

However, this is not the only thing that is bothering me. What also bothers me is what also happens in the other country that I belong too. In my beloved Mexico. The people in that country are suffering so much, there is so much corruption and the economy is terrible. Right now, people are suffering because of the gas prices that rose like crazy. Regular gas rose by 15 percent, Diesel rose by 17 percent, and Premium rose by 20 percent. They are calling it the Gasolinazo, and they need some serious help. While at the same time, how much the peso is worth changes constantly; almost on a daily basis. However, no one is talking about this. The only thing that is being mentioned on the news anywhere is the upcoming inauguration. For a president, who's only main concern is to build a FUCKING wall, which he wants to make Mexico pay for. But will never happen. Why?? Because this country has a history of causing damage to everyone, including its own citizens. This country has gone into Latin American countries, like Mexico, to go and create policies that only benefit the U.S. Why do think these people immigrate to the U.S.? Not for fun, I can guarantee you that. They come here because it is their only chance of survival. We did not cross the border, the border crossed us. The U.S. came into our countries to cause damage, and we come into this country because of that damage. So whether you guys like it or not, this is our country too and we are not planning on leaving anytime soon.

Although I was not born there, I feel a very deep and special connection with Mexico. I sometimes wish that I could live there, that I could be there with people that I love and miss. But, sadly I can't. I'm stuck being in a country that hates me for reasons that I have absolutely no control over. A country that can't take responsibility for its own actions. A country that hates me for being different, for basically not being White. But, I don't care. I am, have always been, and will always be proud of where I come from. I will always be proud to be Mexican, to be a Latina, and this is something that no one will ever take away from me. So yeah, hate me for speaking this way about the U.S., but it's the truth; this is the history of the U.S. You can keep blaming us for all of your problems, but it doesn't change the fact that you created them.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
