Because, priorities.

In The Time It Takes To Write An Odyssey Article
Emily Spennato

In the time it takes you to write an Odyssey article, you could remember you have one due during your morning class and think, “I have no idea what to write.”

You could think about starting your "Dungeons and Dragons" character. You could do some online shopping and make yourself a cup of coffee.

In the time it takes you to write an Odyssey article, you could write a poem about how you’re over your ex-boyfriend. Basically, in the time it takes you to write an Odyssey article, you could get over someone. Or at least pretend you could. If you were, would you still be writing poetry?

You could realize that you are still writing poetry.

You could open up Facebook and reminisce on the time you learned cappuccino art in your semester abroad. You could take up cappuccino art in the time it takes to write an article.

In the time it takes you to write an Odyssey article, you could open your computer and find a spot on the couch by the window and not be sure how you are going to pull this off with quality and finesse. It’s lunch time by now. You can make tuna. You can come back and post on your blog before you even open this document back up.

But that’s life: all about figuring out what’s important and the order of importance.

Who are the important people? What are the important tasks? Which are the highest responsibilities? And we pay attention to them and put effort into them accordingly, in the order of which one matters most to us.

You are going to put the most time and energy into the things that bring your life and your heart the most contentment, excitement, stability and success. If you didn’t, what importance would priorities have?

That’s why it’s so important to choose our friends and people we surround ourselves with based on their priorities. It doesn’t necessarily have to be goal-oriented priorities or success priorities. Make sure the people in your life have emotional and relationship priorities. Choose people who invest in the people who matter most to them—it is important one of those people is themselves.

In the time it takes to write an Odyssey article, you can get discouraged, make lunch, post on your blog, go on Instagram, and prioritize.

Choose what chooses you.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
