It saddens and angers me to see articles like this one. Not because of the ignorance clearly displayed here, but because of the negativity being shown so blatantly about something that literally does not affect you.
You say that these bottoms make you "disappointed in the lack of value that women still have today". Value in what? Themselves? I'm going to assume you meant that, and not just the value of women (like you stated). Women have been wearing various styles of bathing suits for ages now. That's the beauty of it. Everyone is going to like their body better in a certain style of suit, and I hate to break it to you, but that style isn't up to you. If someone wants to rock a one piece that allows them to swim without their chest falling out of the top, they most definitely should. If a girl wants to wear a top that makes her boobs look like a gift from god, more power to her. So if a girl wants to ~God forbid~ wear cheeky bottoms because it makes them confident in their a$$, do it girl. It's her body, if she wants to show off all the squats she's done at the gym, let her.
Many girls already have negative self-image views, and that does not need to be contributed to. No one should be shamed for doing something that makes them feel confident and good about themselves. Being in a bathing suit is one of the most vulnerable states (clothing-wise); women don't need a negative article telling them that it isn't okay to showcase what may be their favorite part of their body. If you are truly a "female who cares about her body and self-image", you would learn to respect not only your own, but other girls' body and self-image too. Just because you wouldn't wear it, doesn't mean you are allowed to openly bash on those that do. It is a bathing suit for crying out loud.
You say these suits are solely for attention, and that women "feel the need to succumb to showing more and more skin each year to attract attention", but you still aren't getting the big picture. The amount of girls I have seen on social media and in real life wearing these ~oh so terrible~ bottoms, are also the girls who are independent and have a "screw society and all its social norms, I'm going to make myself happy" attitude. If breaking away from traditional societal norms isn't something you strive to do, I'd highly recommend it.
Your argument that these bathing suits make women look as if they have no respect for themselves is degrading to your own gender. It's 2017, girls are allowed to have other reasons behind their actions rather than "it's to impress a boy". All in all, let the cheeksters get their good tan lines and let them be confident in themselves before you try and tear them down.
