Love is defined as, ' (1): strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties <maternal love for a child>(2): attraction based on sexual desire : affection and tenderness felt by lovers(3): affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests <love for his old schoolmates>' by the meriam dictionary.
In this day and age, love is big thing for people. Everyone wants to find it, and for a lot of people they have a choice in who they get to love and marry. There are so many dating apps, just to find love, though to me they're more to find a hook up, it kind of seems like people no longer connect face to face, but to fall in love is to connect, and you can connect over the internet. Don't get me wrong, people don't need to hide over the internet. They can be their real selves. So that's one way to connect, but connecting face to face is just as important. Doing everything online you forget how to do thing face to face.
I think people are in love with the idea of love. I think all the books, television shows, and movies have made everyone get the wrong idea. I'm sure some people have a love like the ones described in the movies, but going into a relationship hoping it'll be like what you read is a bad idea. First, you're putting unachievable expectations on someone, you're putting an image in your head on what a relationship should be and not letting it be what it is. It's not going to be perfect, your love will not save the world, and it's a nice fantasy about the Draco Malfoy, Rhysand, or even Jace Herondale type boyfriend, but thinking, 'Oh he's a bad boy, but I can tame him' or 'I can change him' will only leave you hurt. Second, you're deluding yourself, if all those romance scenes from books actually occurred, people wouldn't have to read books in order to get their fill. Third, love is something that is unpredictable and you can't decide when it's going to happen. If you do you're going to fool yourself that you're in love. You just need to let life happen. Everything happens for a reason in due time. Waiting for love can have you seeing things that aren't there. It can have you seeing what you want, but it doesn't mean it's really there.
I want to end this on the note of connection. People want to connect with other people want to find a piece of themselves in others. They want to bond with people. People want to find someone to be with. We want time to ourselves but we don't truly want to be alone forever. To best understand what I'm trying to express, here's a quote to close things out:
“Everyone wants to be special to someone. Everyone wishes to connect. Everyone wants to carve their scars into someone else. ”
