A Time For Everything

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Time. The one thing in life that never stops. Most of the time, it feels as though there is not enough time in the day to get everything done. No matter what you're doing, the clock never stops ticking. Time never stops passing.

These verses are my favorite for two reasons. The first being that it makes you think about how you spend your time. For me, one thing that I spend too much time doing, is worrying. I know that worrying does nothing for me and only makes matters worse, but knowing that doesn't seem to stop me. If I know that God has everything under control and that He does everything in His perfect timing, then I have nothing to worry about. Even though I do spend time worrying, I do not think that I have horrible time management. I think that one of the most important things in life is to make sure you save time for yourself, and to take time to do the things you love. For me, that means singing. Sometimes I come to my dorm room from class and just sit and sing along to songs on Spotify. Sometimes I might spend a little too long doing that, while I should be doing my homework that was due yesterday. ;) But doing what I love takes me to another place-- one without worrying, cares, or fears. You need to make time to do the things that you love. It will change your outlook on life!

The second reason that this verse means so much to me is that it is a constant reminder that every single thing that happens, happens at the right time. There are so many things that happen that make you think, "WHY?!" Why did that just happen? There isn't always going to be an answer for that question, but it is so comforting to know that it was supposed to happen. There is a time-- a purpose-- for everything under heaven. There are going to be sad times in life... times when you feel like everything is wrong, and you can't see a way out. There are going to be times when you are on top of the world, and nothing could be better. No matter what is going on your life, or how you have been feeling lately, remember that there is a time for everything. And it is perfect.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
