This election has many saying that the only reasonable thing is to vote for "the lesser of two evils."
If there is even a possibility that one evil can be more excusable than another, this would beg the question of, "how does one define evil?" As believers ,we must ask ourselves this question and look to the Word of God for its answer. I cannot say yes to the murder of the unborn, both precious and helpless, nor can I ignore deceit or the things hidden in the dark. I also cannot turn a blind eye to bigotry and injustice or sexual assault and slander. In my book, but most importantly in the good Book, these things would all surmount to evil.
There is no less and no more.
As one who is called, the advancement of the gospel is of utmost important to me. I cannot cast my vote for any person or party who has expressed even the slightest opposition to such a mission and who may potentially place restrictions on the spreading of this message of life.
As a citizen of this country whose allegiance is ultimately in a Kingdom of peace, love, and justice to come, I will be casting my vote this Tuesday, but not for either of the two major parties. As a citizen of Heaven, I will cast my vote knowing that my write-in candidate will not win, but my moral convictions will remain standing. When we stand with God we will always win, because He has already conquered it all----death, shame, evil and its cohorts.
I’m not with her. I’m not with him. I’m with God.
Here are 7 reasons why:
1. He is the Good Leader
From leading His people Israel out of Egyptian captivity, to helping Joshua and the Israelite army bring down Jericho’s walls, to sending an angel to rescue a chained Peter from Herod’s prison, God has proven Himself a Worthy and Good Leader. He not only directs our physical paths, but He also guides our hearts and minds. When we are confused and need answers to the trying situations in our lives, He doesn’t keep the truth from us but instead sends His Holy Spirit to help us and teach us.
“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come." John 16:13
And His instruction is so gentle that when He speaks, we are prompted to listen and we desire to change. His kindness leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4)
2. He Can Be Trusted
Unlike people who---though they may love us---often fail us, God can always be counted on. He never breaks His promises but only stays true to His Word. When He tells us He’ll do something, He really means it! Take the story of Abraham and his wife Sarah, for example! Though they were both past the childbearing age (Sarah was 90 and Abraham was 99), God promised that, in a year, Sarah would give birth to their son Isaac. They both doubted God because they knew such a thing was humanly impossible, but God’s ways are higher than ours so the child was conceived and born according to His plan.
God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? Numbers 23:19
And scripture tells us that even when we are faithless, God still remains faithful to us, for He cannot deny Himself. He is not a flip-flopper or a deceiver. He is constant.
For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you. Genesis 28:15
3. He is Just
God is more than fair. He does not count anyone as “better” or “worse,” but instead treats us all equally. In fact, He gives us better than what we deserve. What we deserved was punishment on the cross, but instead He gave us His Son. All He asks is that we accept His Son and walk in righteousness, fairness, and love. By doing so, we learn to model God’s justice.
Unlike the world, which seeks revenge whenever an injustice is served, we are not to worry about those who are hateful and do evil, but to leave them to God.
There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil . . . but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good . . . For God shows no partiality. Romans 2:9-11
He will restore all things and bring justice in the end. Yet even with that being true, God still is fair and patient with those who do evil, that they may come to know Him. He does not desire to have to punish any of us, not even the murders and the rapists!
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
Not only is He just, but he justifies us through our faith in Him. When we are justified, we have peace with God through his Son Jesus.
4. He Cares
Whereas the cares of this world can easily make us anxious, He tells us not to stress or worry, but to cast our cares upon him and rest in his peace.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 1:28
5. He Takes Pride in Us
God spent six days creating the heavens and earth. In those six days He created the sky, the land and sea, the sun, moon, and stars, the animals and us. Yet with such vast and diverse groups of species to work with, God chose to create us in His image. We are His most prized creation! He even values us above His angels. That’s a pretty proud Father.
What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. Psalm 8:4-5
6. He’s Committed To Us
Just as a shepherd goes out and searches for the one sheep that went astray, though he has ninety-nine waiting for him on the hill, so God goes the distance to bring even one lost soul to Him (Matthew18:12-14). He wants us and He’s for us. He’s chosen us to be His adopted sons and daughters and He’s not willing to let anyone steal us away from Him with ease. He fights for us.
“I am God now and forever. No one can snatch you from me or stand in my way.” Isaiah 43:13
And God put up the ultimate fight for us when He, in His Son Jesus, suffered on a cross in our place and defeated death for all of eternity that we may live forever with him.
7. He Promises Us Something Greater
No matter what sort of pain or suffering we may endure on this earth, no matter what evils we may witness, if we hold fast to God and the truth of His Son Jesus, we can be sure that we’ll receive a glorious reward in our life to come. He has an inheritance stored up for us that nothing in the world could ever compare. So as we continue to live day to day in a world that seems hopeless, we can walk with confidence in knowing that there is a greater good, a greater hope, and a greater joy to come.
Our world and our nation may appear to be falling apart, but God promises to make all things new one day soon.
No matter who ends up in office, God will always remain God and His promises will always remain true. He will bring forth everlasting change and make the world whole again. Trust in this. Stand by this.
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new " And He said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true." Revelations 21:4-5
May God be first in our hearts, always, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Have a safe election day.
