As someone who wears liquid lipstick nearly every day, many are surprised to hear that I have never been a fan of the cult-favorite liquid lipstick, Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick. Kat Von D is arguably the first brand to actually make liquid lipstick readily available, and I did invest in it about three years ago. What compelled me to purchase a neon, cool-toned pink called "Backstage Bambi," I will never know. I honestly don't think I ever wore it, and ended up giving it to a friend. This past summer, I finally bought the shade of hers that I had truly always wanted, "Vampira." Clearly I had gotten my hopes up much too high, because "Vampira" never truly dried matte, required two coats for opaque color, and transferred everywhere, leaving my face a red mess. Despite my disappointments from the past, I recently purchased another liquid lipstick from Kat Von D, a light purple color titled "Ayesha."
I'd like to say that I have no idea why I chose this color. It's not particularly in style, not very everyday, and I had never shown interest in it before. However, I'm very happy that I chose it. It's the perfect spring color, and in my opinion, it's neutral in tone, so it could work well on both cool- and warm-toned skin. On top of that, I'm happy to report that the formula is great. It goes on opaque with one coat, feels lightweight, and doesn't feel particularly drying. It also lasted through my General Tso's tofu dinner, so that was a bonus. When it came to removal, it removed it cleanly just with my nightly cleanser.
I must say, perhaps I judged the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks too quickly. I can see myself reaching for "Ayesha" often in the future, and I'm excited to test out some other colors as well (I had my eye on "Berlin" but it was sold out). The Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks retail for $20 and are available at Sephora and on Kat Von D's website.
