It truly saddens me that so few people are fortunate enough to know of the TV show Impractical Jokers. Now, this is probably because it is on TruTV, and I can’t think of anyone besides my girlfriend’s dad who consistently watches TruTV. In fact, he is actually the person who introduced me to this gem of a show. I’m essentially going to be advertising for this show (unfortunately I’m not getting paid) with the next couple hundred of words.
I could try and sum up the show in my own words, but instead, I’m just going to steal the description they use before every episode: The following program contains scenes of graphic stupidity among four lifelong friends who compete to embarrass each other. So the disclaimer is a little lame, but the show certainly will not disappoint. It is a hidden camera show where one person has an earpiece and the other three tell him to do and say ridiculous stuff in public, and if they don’t do it they lose that round. At the end of the episode whoever has lost the most challenges is punished by the other three. It is simple but will surely make you laugh out loud every episode. In fact, it may be the funniest TV show I have ever seen.
Part of the reason Impractical Jokers might not have as much recognition as it deserves is because it isn’t on Netflix. One of the big draws of Netflix over cable TV is that you can really veg out and binge watch a TV show. However, this is possible with Impractical Jokers because it is on TruTV all the time. I seriously think it might be on 23.5 hours a day, with the other half hour reserved for Adam Ruins Everything (another good show). I can testify to this as my roommate watched at least 5 hours straight of the show today.
If you aren’t trying to watch a show for 6, 7, or 8 hours straight, Impractical Jokers is also for you. Each episode is independent of the other, so you can watch any episode at any time. Plus, they are only 30 minutes, so it doesn’t take up much time at all. Even if you just want to watch something for 10 minutes before you head out the door, Impractical Jokers fits that need too. This is because the show is built of a bunch of independent challenges and therefore you can start watching at any point and not be confused.
For all you people who like character development shows (I’m talking about you, Shameless fans), Impractical Jokers fits that need as well. See, the more you watch the show the more you get to know the 4 cast members and understand the inside jokes. Thus, the more you watch the show the better it gets. You will come to pick a favorite member of the show (mines Sal), who just make you laugh with everything they do. You will probably also develop a least favorite person (Murr) who just make you cringe, and are fun to laugh at, giving the show another dimension. Because the 4 members of the show (Murr, Sal, Q, and Joe) have different styles and personalities, this show caters to all senses of humors. So, whoever you are with, this show will certainly be a crowd pleaser because of its appeal to all different types.
