I have always been taught from a young age that it is important to have a good work ethic. I believe that you will not get very far in life if you don't have drive and determination in the workplace. It's shocking to me that most of the people I know in college do not have jobs because they can't balance school and work. I guess my opinion is somewhat biased because school comes naturally easy for me. But these are also the people that when they aren't in class, they aren't studying, either. They are sitting in their rooms watching Netflix, laying in bed all day.
More reasons to work during college is that you gain resources, experience and it helps you manage your time better. I mean, if partying is more important to you every single day rather than building connections and gaining experience then be my guest. But those who are successful in life start working while in college.
It really agitates me at people who don't work while in school because they can't manage their time better. Once you graduate and have to go into the "real world" at least those who work will be able to manage their time with work, family and friends.
You also cannot be dependent on your parents' money for forever. Personally, I think it's embarrassing to be 20 years and still depending on any money you get from your parents. But, again, this is an opinionated article.
I think it is a critical point in someone's life when they are in college. You are experiencing living on your own and being away from your parents for the first time. You are in control of your own time and everything that surrounds your life, and if you are choosing to sit in bed watching Netflix, and drinking your time away, then that's your mistake.
While the rest of us are busting our butts to make our own money while gaining experience and making connections at the same time. I'm not talking about having a full-time job. You can work two hours a week at the library. At least you're doing something to make your future better for yourself.
