Why It's Important To Travel With Your Friends During College

Why It's Important To Travel With Your Friends During College
Her Campus

College is the time in your life that is all about exploration. It is four years to try new things, meet new people and learn a lot about yourself. It's where you will meet your best friends, the people who will be your future bridesmaids and friends for years to come. I have had the time of my life in college surrounded by so many amazing people, but some of my best times in college have happened off campus, out of state and nowhere near school. Some of my most memorable moments happened when my friends and I have packed up our stuff and gone on an adventure to somewhere completely new. So during these fast four years, it is important to take advantage of any chance to travel somewhere fun with your friends.

My friends and I have taken any and all opportunities to travel these past few years. Even though it can be tough to afford as college students, we make it a priority. You're only young once and we are never again going to be able to pack up and leave so easily. Going on trips with my friends has made us so much closer than we already were. Having the chance to experience so many new things together, spend hours in the car together, and make memories together has made our friendships even stronger. The times that we have spent laughing on long car rides, making travel playlists and learning all the words to every song on them during our drives, are some of my most treasured moments from college.

Having the opportunity to explore more of the world, especially while you're young is such an amazing thing. I have learned so much about our country from taking road trips while in college. I have experienced new foods, music, and traditions that I never knew existed. But the best thing about being able to travel at this time in your life is that you learn so much about yourself, what you do and don't like and what you want to do in the future.

Being able to explore different places in the country has given me a better idea of where I want to live after graduation. Each city that my friends and I have conquered I have fallen completely in love with because of the incredible memories we made. Expanding my horizons to the differences that exist in just this one country has been a great learning experience. Sometimes when you are sheltered in the bubble of your college campus, it can be hard to remember that anyone lives any differently. But taking the chance to explore beyond the walls of your college campus is important in realizing how much privilege we have as college students. That is why I urge you, if you ever have the chance, travel somewhere you've always wanted to go with your friends and create memories that will last a lifetime.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
