Exams, homework, lab write-ups, assignments, class 5 days a week, internships, jobs, dance rehearsal, volunteering, community service—it’s all overwhelming. You run from one class to the next, from one group study to other extra curricular activities, and you’re wiped out by the time the weekend rolls around—which feels like it lasts only 2 minutes rather than two days.
This past weekend was different. I realized that while having ten million things on my mind while running errands, I haven’t created time that I deserve for myself. We often get so caught up in waiting for the seconds, minutes, and hours to pass by that we forget to take care of ourselves, too.
Whether that be staying in, lighting a few candles, and watching 13 Reasons Why, or going out with my friends, eating at a new place in Georgetown, or even going on a picnic-- finding a time and place to be in tune with yourself is just as important as the other fifteen things that are on your to do list.
It’s important to take time for yourself not only to take a quick hiatus in the hustle and bustle of life, but to find yourself as well. Take up a new dancing class, go to a workout event—it doesn’t have to be anything big; even making a conscious effort to write in a journal every other day makes so much of a difference.
Take the time to remember your passions, your dreams, and your desires and hold them close to you because that’s what makes you, you. With that being said, while keeping your old passions close to you, find new ones. You may discover a thing or two about yourself that you didn't know before.
