Being Texan means that you are raised by the traditions, ones that people in other states will never understand. Whether you grew up in Houston, Dallas, McKinney, Odessa, Austin, Bastrop, or Fort Stockton you will understand these traditions.

Buc-ee's: Thank goodness for Buc-ee's! They have clean restrooms, warm food, healthy snacks, beef jerky, a deli, any type of roasted nuts, and souvenirs; the list is endless, but this has to be a Texas tradition we should never let die.

James Avery:This jewelry store is how Texans recognize each other out of state. Imagine being in a place like Arizona and seeing someone wearing a James Avery ring, necklace, or charms and knowing you can instantly make a connection with a friend.

Whataburger: Other states always claim their chain of fast food is the best, but this simply isn't true. If you have never had a beef patty on Texas toast with fresh lettuce, jalapeños, tomatoes, mayonnaise, pickles, and spicy ketchup, I'm sorry for your taste buds.

Dr. Pepper: This may not seem like a Texas thing, but it truly is. The founder of Dr. Pepper attended the University of Texas and discovered Dr. Pepper in Waco, Texas. This drink embodies Texas and everything good that comes from it.

College Football: This is a huge Texas tradition, we Texans pride ourselves in our state schools and rivalry between them is serious. College games represent our Alma Mater or those of our friends and family. Hook' em!

Texas Truck Editions: Texas Truck Editions are the best because you take a regular truck and put a Texas plaque on it and instantly it's better. Also, is every month Texas Truck Month or is there an actual month that it takes place in? We might never know.

Boots: Boots are a huge deal in Texas boots can be worn for any occasion. Even Senator Ted Cruz wears boots to interviews, senate hearings, and other events.

Tubing: There is nothing better than taking your inner tube to San Marcos River, tying a rope to your friends, and letting the current take you for a ride. The heat will beam down on your skin but the cool water will refresh you, and if you get hungry you can always have a cookout next to the river.

Texas Themed Clothing: Tyler's Texas and Texas Humor are my favorite places to get Texas hats, shirts, decals, and other accessories. Texas is a proud state and with good reason... we aren't Oklahoma.

The Texas Hammer: "El Martillo Tejano" Okay, this may not be a tradition, but if you're from Texas, you have heard this before. I have a friend who got into a car accident and actually called him. I don't know whether the case was won or not but it was still pretty great. Whether you trust Jim Adler or not, if you grew up in Texas, you know who he is.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
