"You are the priority in your life. How you love you, how you see you, how you treat you is going to set the stage and issue the invitation that will draw other people in to love you." - Ivanla Vanzant

Putting yourself first should be your utmost priority when it comes to deciding anything. Your feelings are the ones you should care for the most and you should do whatever you feel is healthy for you. Whether it comes to relationships, friendships, work decisions, academic decisions, etc. you should make sure you choose what is right for you. This doesn’t make you selfish, but it rather makes you headstrong. Here are a few way that putting yourself first will improve your life.

Your health depends on it:

When it comes to your physical, mental, and emotional health they all determine your energy, attitude, mood, and success! Have you ever noticed that after a crazy, stressful week you begin to feel overwhelmed? Then when you finally get to the weekend, you wake up sick and don’t leave the bed? This isn’t healthy! Take time to treat yourself over the course of the week, don’t overdo yourself. Go out and run, workout, do some yoga, go to your favorite coffee shop, make a journal, listen to some relaxing music, or even read a book that is not school or work related. Doing these things will improve your well being and make you feel so much better! Make your health a priority if you want to live a great life. You’ll do better, be better, and feel better!

Your friends and family will notice and support you on it:

Your friends and family notice when they're talking to you and you’re half asleep or mentally distracted. These are the people that know you best and love you the most. They would be okay if you see them little less often than usual so that you can take some time for yourself! By doing this, you’ll become a better listener and a more enjoyable person to be around because you will be able to be truly present with them.

Your romantic relationships will thrive:

If you’re in a relationship or looking for one, you should take some time to take care of yourself. By taking the necessary time for yourself, you give your partner the freedom to take that time for him or herself. This way, everyone is happy! When you're well rested, relaxed and centered, you're a better person to be around. This will improve your relationship and may even lessen the amount of arguments you and your partner have. If you’re not in a relationship, the glow of your happiness and self-love will be noticed, trust me.

You'll start smiling more:

When you are at your happiest, you are at your most helpful to the world. We should all strive to be our happiest and do those things that make us happy, every day. This doesn’t make us selfish in any way, keeping ourselves happy should never be considered selfish. So don’t be afraid to clear your schedule to do the things that make you happy. Don’t be afraid to love you! After all, you are pretty awesome! You deserve to live a great life and the only way to have it is by taking care of you!

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
