The most important role models in my life are my mother and father. They are always here for me no matter what. They do not judge me and support my choices no matter the situation; they taught me everything I know.

My mother inspires me to want to be successful. She is a registered nurse and has been for 24 years. I want to follow in her footsteps and become a nurse as well.

Some people get into nursing for all the wrong reasons; one reason may be that they get into it just for the money. This is not the case with my mother: she genuinely loves helping people and saving lives.

She always wants to learn more and better herself in her career.

My father is my role model too because even with his dad dying his senior year of high school, he still worked hard and got to where he is now. He is a software analyst for a company and is very good at his job; he is the one that people go to for answers to their questions.

When I am older, I want to be able to support a family like my parents support my brother and I. We have never once struggled, and I have gotten a good education since pre-kindergarten.

They are letting me go to the college of my dreams, even though it is a little bit expensive. They have always wanted what is best for me.

I remember my mother telling me that she looked at a bunch of elementary schools and at one of the ones she looked at she thought the people were rude. So she placed me into an amazing elementary school that I love to this day.

Again, when we were looking at high schools, my parents talked to our neighbors and found out about vocational technical schools. I went to Hodgson Vo-Tech High School and set my foundation for my nursing career.

The moral of the story is that my parents are amazing, and I love them to death. I know I have a good head on my shoulders because of them.

I am who I am today because of them.

Mom and dad, you have always been here for me, and I am so lucky to have a support system like you two in my life.

Mom, when I was diagnosed with anxiety you laid by my side every night while I had panic attacks. You are always concerned with my brother's and my health even if it is just a little thing like scraping a knee.

You even told me you would get a heart monitor for me when I thought I had a heart problem, but it was really just anxiety.

Dad, I know you want to give me more than you had as a child, and I want you to know that you have succeeded in doing so. You always made sure I was okay, and you always gave me advice when I needed it.

I love you both so much there aren't even words to describe it.

Thank you Mom and Dad, for always being there when I needed you.

Thank you for raising me right and teaching me right from wrong.

Most of all, thank you for loving me unconditionally and helping me make the right choices. I hope you both know how amazing you truly are.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
