With the media being flooded with coverage on the history-making event that is the 2016 election, it is completely possible we've all missed some very more important issues than a meme of Trump or a video of Hilary dancing to "juju on that beat". Here are just a few of the heartbreaking and heartwarming events occurring locally, nationally and globally:
Local
-Danielle Kemp received the Chelsea Cohen Courage Award October 17 at the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame Awards.
The town of Milford, Conn. has come together to help support a local Milford 19-year old and Foran High School graduate, Danielle Kemp, who was recently diagnosed with a rare, inoperable brain tumor. Danni has come along way in her fight and it could not have been done with out her positive attitude and strong will but also with the support of her family, friends and local community.

-A Sunoco Logistics pipeline ruptured in Williamsport,Penn. due to a spontaneous storm that caused severe flooding. The oil spill into the Susquehanna River could cause 55,000 galloons of gasoline to reach the drinking water supply.
-FBI have used face recognition technology to create a database of 117 million Americans, about one in every two adults.
-Minneapolis police officers involved in the death of Jamar Clark will not face disciplinary action.
-A bridge in Tennesse has been named after Zaevion Dobson who lost his life in 2015 while shielding his friends from gunfire.
Worldwide
-Instagram now encompasses a feature to prevent suicide. If users search, hashtag or like pictures related to self-harm Instragram will alert the user with helpful suggestions such as talking to a friend or contacting a local helpline.
-A rally was held in central London on Saturday, where hundreds of people pleaded for the UK to take action on the war in Syria. Protestors wore "Save Aleppo" t-shirts and also laid teddy bears down opposite the gates of Downing Street to demonstrate the young lives taken in the wake of Syria's civil war.
-Former Mexican police chief, Felipe Flores Velazquez, was finally arrested for suspicion of organized crime and kidnapping after the disappearance of 43 students.
-Refugee Code Week took place in Amman to help teach 10,000 people across the Middle East in IT skills. The hope of the class is to give Syrian refugees jobs in coding to help tackle the rise of unemployment that has occurred in refugee countries including Jordan, Egypt and Turkey.
-About 500 people evacuated the London City Airport on Friday after a chemical scare, of what officials reported to be a CS gas spray. 26 patients were treated at the scene.
-At the Save the Elephant Foundation in Chiang Mai, Thailand recently rescued baby elephant, Kham La, saved Darrick Thomson, co-founder of the organization, from drowning. Although Thomson was actually perfectly fine and baby Kham La interpreted his calls as cries for help, it is still completely heart-warming and beautiful the love this elephant has for her rescuer.
