"Boy Meets World" is my all-time favorite TV show. Growing up, I enjoyed watching Cory and Shawn get into trouble and when I got older, I appreciated the relationship between Cory and Topanga. The one thing I loved the most were the lessons and morals that the show was built on (most of them taught by Mr. George Feeny). I think I've learned more from watching "Boy Meets World" than I learned in all four years of high school. Out of all the lessons this show taught me, I think these are the most important:
Life's Tough. Get a Helmet.
The earlier you learn this lesson, the better. Through the wise words of Eric Matthews, we were taught life is hard. It won't always be rainbows and smiles, so be prepared for the hardships and learn to face them "head on." Learning to deal with problems is a part of growing up and "Boy Meets World" tells us to get ready for them because this is just the beginning.
Growing As A Person
Throughout life, people will always have an opinion of you. Sometimes those opinions will be positive and sometimes they'll be negative. People will try to change who you are and make you more like them. One of the most important lessons the great Mr. Feeny taught us is that you shouldn't care what other people think of you. If you want to grow as a person, you need to forget about who will say what and just do what makes you happy. People will always have their opinions but you will grow so much more if you live life for yourself instead of for others. Mr. Feeny helped us figure out who we are, and for that we can be grateful.
Don't Lose Yourself
"Boy Meets World" also taught us a lot about friendship. This show taught me that good friends are hard to find and even harder to keep. When you have a great friend like Cory or Shawn, they become family and you love them like you love your siblings. But whether it's the distance or a disagreement, some friends become strangers. Mr. Squirrels taught us that if you lose one friend because of nonsense, you will eventually lose all friends. You have to hold on to what's important and not let the little things like distance get in the way. If you don't cherish your friendships, you will find yourself alone, wondering what happened to your friends. Make sure to let your friends know how loved they are, and keep them around for a very long time.
Dream. Try. Do Good.
This is the last lesson we were taught and it is definitely the most important. When you think there is nothing left to be taught Mr. Feeny hits you with this last lesson and it pretty much sums up the purpose of life. No matter what you do or where life takes you, make sure that you believe in yourself and your ability to accomplish your goals. Dream the greatest dream you can dream and try your best to make it happen. And last but not least, do good. Not do well, but do good. Help others and be kind to one another. If you want to see good things occur in this world, make them happen!
"Boy Meets World" inspired a generation of kids who wanted to change this world and make it better. It filled a generation with hope, love, and friendship. And when it was done, we took the lessons we learned and we applied them to our lives.
So dream, try, and do good. That's all for today's lesson. Class Dismissed.
