Important Life Lessons From 'The Office'

" The Office" is one of those shows that provides us with a countless number of hilarious and outrageous moments that make us laugh until your sides hurt. But as funny as the show can be, it can also be very deep and touch us emotionally, and even gave us useful advice and life lessons.

What Christmas really means.

Michael Scott has given the world some pretty great words of wisdom. His ideas on Christmas may seem to reflect the commercialized and materialistic aspects that Christmas is associated with today, but if you think about it he's saying that a Christmas gift should be thoughtful and special. Maybe to show off how much you're willing to spend for someone, too.

Living in the moment.

Though it is said quite often nowadays, it's true. The future may hold great things in store, but the fact is that the future belongs in the future. There is no time like the present. Don't dwell on what's already happened or worry about what will because you can't change the past and whatever happens in the future will happen in due time.

It's perfectly fine to have feelings.

Another piece of great Michael Scott advice. We might want to prove to others or a lot of people just how tough we can be during hard times, but bottling up those feelings can worsen things later on. So if you have a bad day at work, it's all right. Let it out.

Mental health should be taken seriously.

I cannot stress this enough. Mental health is a serious issue that needs more attention and to be taken seriously. Too many people brush depression and anxiety as signs of weakness, fear and wallowing in self-pity. It's crucial to realize that mental health is an issue that needs to be understood by everyone because they are real diseases. Don't be an ignorant slut and ignore mental health problems.

Roll with the punches.

As one of the "toughest" characters on the show, Dwight is right. Sometimes shit happens. And even though we may try to fix it, sometimes we just have to accept that it happened. Tell ourselves, "It is what it is," and carry on with our lives.

You control your destiny.

Couldn't have said it any better than Daryl. No one else knows what you truly want in life except for you. Don't let someone else decide for you. Take it by the reigns and own your destiny.

Patience is key.

It is a virtue. And for good reason. Watching Jim waiting for the love of his life with complete patience, even while she dated other people and so did he, is probably the best example to show that not just good things, but the best things (sometimes the best people) come into our lives with a little bit of patience.
