Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the Women's March on Washington this Saturday, but I know countless lovely ladies (and men) who marched. As a young female, it is so astounding to see so many people come together for a cause. I have been able to be surrounded by protests for many causes throughout my teenage years, which has played a huge role in my political views and beliefs.
For some reason, the Women's March on Washington is being considered controversial by some Americans and I am baffled by this. A huge reason this women's march is so important is because it is inclusive and does not continue perpetuate the standards of 'white feminism.' White feminism is an exclusive form of feminism that does not aim to help solve the issues of women of color, only the issues that white women face.
People are still trying to silence the voices of women, which is the main reason this protest is so important. What was planned as a peaceful protest is already has naysayers trying to shut it down and discredit. Furthermore, it is important to research the bills that are currently trying to be passed that would impact either you as a woman if you identify as one, or a woman close to you.
