The Importance Of Prayer

The reasons behind why prayer is so important in our lives.

The Importance Of Prayer

Prayer is something that always gets talked about and acted out in church, but the importance of prayer is not always remembered. Sometimes, we get in such a habit of praying before meals or after a church service ends. However, getting in the habit of prayer, although a good thing, can also be a bad thing. Like many things, there are times where we fall into a habit and don't always remember the importance of different things.

Prayer is something that isn't just a daily habit. It is a wonderful way that we, as humans, can continue to have a relationship with God. Prayer is something that is so wonderful because there are so many ways that it can be utilized. Whether it is praying for health or for wisdom, God is always open to hear our prayers and hel us. Prayer is something that is so special, that when it is just brushed of as something so simple, it is hard to remember the importance of it.

A wonderful aspect of prayer is that it is our way of being able to communicate with God. It is our way of talking to Him, as well as one of the ways that He will talk to us. Based off of this, there are so many times where our prayers become something that is said so quickly. Whether it be early in the morning or right before bed, our prayers usually end up being so quick and based on what we want or request. Because of this, we never spend time just taking a breathe and being quiet so that we can listen to what God has to say to us. Many times this is needed because so often we ask but never listen, when in reality we need to listen more than ask.

In the end, prayer is so powerful and wonderful because it isn't something that we have to strive for or try to perfect. Our prayer doesn't have to be perfect because God doesn't expect us to be perfect. God knows that we aren't perfect and that sometimes we don't always know how to talk to Him, but the good thing is that we don't always have to know. We can always go to God and just be there, we don't always have to have words. We can just sit and be in the presence and God will not judge us.

There are so many wonderful aspects of prayer and the fact that it doesn't have to be perfect is so helpful. So many times we get caught up in worrying about whether or not people will judge us by our prayer or that our prayer has to be perfect and it doesn't. Prayer is a conversation between you and God and in no way does that ever have to be perfect because God will love us no matter what. He accepts us for who we are and just wants us to talk to Him. So cherish your prayer and remember it doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be truthful.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
