We have defined "chair" as a separate seat for one person, typically with a back and four legs. Therefore any object that seats one person and has a back and four legs is a chair. It looks like a chair, functions like a chair and can be nothing else but a chair.
We have defined "dog" as a domesticated carnivorous mammal that typically has a long snout, an acute sense of smell, and a barking, howling or whining voice. It is commonly kept as a pet or used for work and in field sports. Therefore any domesticated, carnivorous mammal, with a long snout and a barking, whining voice is a dog. It sounds like a dog, acts like a dog, and can be nothing else but a dog.
We have defined "woman" as an adult human female, a female coworker or employee or a wife, girlfriend or lover. Therefore any female human, coworker, wife or girlfriend is a woman. She looks like a woman, she acts like a woman, she is a woman and can be nothing else but a woman.
We have defined our mouths as the thing through which food enters the human body and through which speech is emitted from it. We have told our mouths that they can do that and nothing more. Even our mouths, the very object that gave us the ability to label the objects of this world, are confined by words.
We live in a world that has been shaped by our words. Every object has a name, has a function and has a purpose, according to the way we have chosen to define it.
So think of it this way, how do you define yourself? How do you define the person sitting next to you?
Unworthy
Unsuccessful
Unloved
or
Beloved
Successful
Worthy
Think about the words you have chosen to define you, do not let them tell you your purpose and how you must function. Think about the words you have chosen to define the person sitting next to you, do not let those words tell them their purpose and how they must function.
We cannot let words, definitions and labels restrict us from testing our human potential and reaching new limits as a society. So if you want to change the world, start by changing your words.
