Motivation is defined as the reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way. It is the desire to do something and influences everything we do. It is a crucial element in setting and attaining goals, but that doesn't mean that we are motivated for the right reasons.
In the past, I was motivated to do well in school or to apply for a certain position or job because other people wanted and expected me to. My family expects me to do well in school and I never want to disappoint them or anyone who is by my side. While your family, a significant other, or other's expectations of you are good motivations to do well, they shouldn't be the sole reasoning for doing anything. Your sole reason for doing something should be your personal motivation.
You shouldn't be motivated to get a good job because your friends all have amazing jobs. You shouldn't be motivated to workout and eat healthy because you're afraid no one will like you. You should want a good job and be motivated to get it because you know you are meant to achieve greatness. You should be motivated to eat healthy because you want to be the best person you can be physically. You shouldn't be motivated to look good for some guy or girl. You shouldn't want to be successful because everyone around you is successful, rather you should want to be successful because you know anything less is something you don't want. Be motivated to do well in school for yourself.
When you are motivated on your own, you will be amazed what you can do and accomplish. You will go from barely making it by to accomplishing more than you could ever imagine in the 24 hours the Lord has given you. Instead of being motivated to do well in school because I didn't want to let anyone down, I am not motivated to do well because I know what I am capable of. I know I am capable of doing great in school and I am motivated to give 110% in everything I do.
Do it for yourself, because everyone else is.
