It's safe to say that as a college student at Syracuse University I do not get enough sunlight. After spending my freshman year of college in class amidst strong snowstorms and very little sun to be seen, I must say that I entered summer feeling slightly groggy.
With winter temperatures at a low and very little sunlight, it is so important to make sure to grasp some sunlight, and I must say I have felt much better being in the sunlight of Maine this summer.
Here are a few things I have noticed from trying to gain as much Vitamin D as possible—with SPF, of course.
1. I am exploring more of my hometown
I must say, I have found myself in so many of my favorite places early every single day this summer. My quest for more sunlight has brought me so many amazing experiences.
2. Spending time in the sun is extremely relaxing
Last summer I did my absolute best to avoid the sunlight, as I hoped for the healthiest and clearest skin possible. Although it is extremely important to protect your skin from UV rays, I have learned that relaxing in the sun is very important too sometimes, and how SPF 50 usually does the trick.
3. I feel more inspired from the sunlight
I have always been that person who needs the sunlight to be in my best mood. As I have been spending time outdoors as much as I can, I have felt much more inspired within all areas of my life.
4. I have a more positive outlook
There's something about spending time at the beach that always leaves me feeling extremely positive and ready to conquer my week. Vitamin D is very uplifting, and has brought me lots of positivity.
5. I choose to eat outside whenever possible while dining out
Every time I go out to eat, I do my best to sit outside if the weather complies. Personally, I find eating outside much more enjoyable anyways, and I also get to soak up some sun!
6. I notice myself smiling more
Due to the positive affects of Vitamin D, I do notice myself smiling much more in the summertime than I do in the winter. Over this past month my smile lines have definitely deepened, and I do owe some of it to the happiness being outdoors brings me.
7. I make plans for every single day
I told myself that I would make this summer as eventful as possible, and my quest for more sunlight has definitely coincided with this. I usually have some sort of plan for every day. Whether that be an adventure with friends, a beach day, a pool day, or a shopping trip, I nearly always find myself doing something with the suns company.
8. I have found myself in a much better mood
Since being home from the thick snowfall of Syracuse, NY, I entered the summer in such a good mood. There are so many things to do during the summer, and doing all of these things in the sunlight always lifts my mood.
Overall, I have noticed my spirits lift immensely over the past month. Solely from spending more time outside in the beautiful weather, I have experienced so many positives that are hard to grasp while in the cold winter climate. Whenever you can, go outside and enjoy the summer (with SPF of course!) and experience the positives of Vitamin D.
