The Importance of Family

They are the friends you did not have to make.

The older you get, the more important your family becomes.

You may not realize it now, but your family will stand by you no matter what you do. As you get older and are trying to build a life for yourself, you will make a lot of tough decisions. No matter where you go or what you decide to do, your family is there to support you and help you decide what is best for you.

Your family members have so much to teach you. Even those that are younger than you can teach you. Different experiences and perspectives are valuable, and your family is most likely, to be honest about their experiences. You will learn all about their tragedies and triumphs. Appreciate your family history because it is unique.

You may not always be close to your family, and that's okay. Just know that they are important people in your life. You do not have to text or call every day to have a positive outlook on the people in your family. Know that they will always be there to talk to you when you need them.

Make the effort to see your family and get everybody together. Do not let the only time you see all your family be under tragic circumstances. You do not need an excuse to get everybody together and just spend time together.

Often times I find myself taking my family for granted. I know they will be there, so I forget to thank them for everything they do for me. Whenever I am in town, I always make time for my family. I hope that my actions remind them how thankful I am to have them around.

Take the time to remind your family you love them and will be there for them no matter where life takes you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
