With this upcoming presidential election being so controversial, it's hard not to see dozens and dozens of headlines relating to the two candidates on a daily basis. These articles are usually biased and many involve bashing one or both candidates. Every time I log onto any social media site, I see people sharing their opinions and views on the election. I have never seen people my age pay this much attention to politics before, due to the fact that this is an imperative election, and also the first time many college students have the chance to vote in a presidential election. The results of this election could change the lives of many people, so why do some people not seem to care at all?
Many people I know, myself included, are passionate about this election and want to make our voices heard by voting this November. Others though have stated that they don't care, or that it doesn't matter who becomes President. Some people just go along with what their parents or friends think, without educating themselves on the different issues and agendas either candidate covers. When people say that they don't want to vote, it confuses me. We have the power to choose, so why wouldn't we exercise our ability to vote? When people say that they don't care, it shows a certain level of privilege that they have. Not everyone can afford to not care about this election, because it will affect different groups of people in more drastic ways than others.
Choosing not to educate yourself about this election is choosing to be ignorant about one of the most important choices the people of the United States have to make. If you are unsure or undecided about this election because you haven't been following it, it's not too late to educate yourself and read up on the candidates. Study the real issues and policies, not just the petty things that the media escalates. Don't just sit back and watch as other people make the decision for you, because you will regret it.
