Throughout history, people have always sought after traits that are seen as "desirable" within society's standards. Though people have witnessed a seemingly endless ebb and flow of what society deems as acceptable or desirable, people often blindly follow the crowd, sometimes even despite their own wants and needs. Typically, the mold of the most attractive version of a male is seen as tall (preferably over 6 foot), fit and toned muscles (not scary bulky, though), and chiseled facial features (think *The Crimson Chin from "Fairly Odd Parents,").
However, in recent years, there has been an uprising. Women are no longer blindly following the pack. Women across the nation are trading in the Zac Efron ideal for a Seth Rogen image. Women are trading in their keys to their sports car for a nice, gently used Tahoe. The newest movement has baffled men and women alike - why would anyone want the chubby guy?
The newly sought-after male model has many names - "stocky," "chubby," "thiccccc" - but is most affectionately referred to as "the dad bod." This model gives the vast majority of men a sigh of relief, no longer will they feel societal pressures to fit a certain mold. It takes the pressure off of having washboard abs or pecs bigger than a girl's. Women are recognizing that it isn't the glutes that make the man, but rather the gut. For, the man with a gut will have the personality that will last far longer than the glutes of a guy with a "Chad" personality.
In conclusion, the importance of the dad bod is not only prominent for the women seeking it, but it is even more so for the men being sought after. It alleviates societal pressures that can be detrimental to one's self-esteem and highlights the importance of personality over appearance. The revolution of the dad bod seems to be one that will last for years to come. Move over, Zac, it's Seth's time to shine.
