What My Best Friend Means To Me

Best friends are one of the most important things in your life. Don't forget about them.

What My Best Friend Means To Me
Gabrielle Glaser

Throughout my life, things come and go, but there is one thing that has always been constant: my best friend. Best friends are there for you when you are sick, when you have some time to kill, when a guy breaks your heart, or when you just need to gossip and get out. Best friends are the ones who stick around even when you chose to spend time with others over them or go off to separate colleges. They are the people that could not see each other for months, but as soon as they are together, it is like they never were apart.

In the past I have not appreciated my best friend like I should have. I spent all my time with someone that may not be in my life forever, though I thought they were going to be. Recently, my best friend has been there for me through the hard times, helping bring smiles to my face when she can. If I wanted to stay in and be sad, she was there to be sad with me. If I wanted to go out and not think, she would take me out. She was there to tell me no, something I didn’t want to hear but needed to. When I don’t think I could ever understand why something is happening, she will always try her best to explain it to me. And some things don’t always have an explanation, so she helps me think of the craziest things just so she can see me smile through the tougher times. All she wants is the best for me, to see me happy. One of the many reasons I love her. She is truly like a sister to me.

What I am getting at is never take advantage of having that perfect best friend. The best friend you can get mad at even though you know they are right and they won’t go anywhere. There is always time for him/her even when you don't think there is. Make time because they will help you through the toughest times, even if you don’t think you will make it through. And if you don’t put in the effort like they do, then why would they want to be there for you after you ‘replaced’ them. Everything happens so fast, make sure you hold on tight to you best friend. They feel replaced when you spend all your time with your boyfriend. But they are going to be the one that's there for you through the tough times. They are the one you will want to tell all your exciting adventures to. Best friends are loyal, they get you, all they want is the best for you and to see you happy so why would you ever forget about them or treat them less than they deserve? Best friends won't let you do stupid thing alone; they will do them with you. Best friends are your true other half; everyone needs a best friend. Life is too hard to go through it alone.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
