It was released recently that the White House was looking into the procedures of Impeachment for President Donald J Trump. While former Republican Presidential Candidate, and Senator Rick Santorum has made a statement that Republicans will still back the highly controversial president. People from the left and the right have begun to see what they hope is a light at the end of this very strange tunnel. However as one woman took to her social media to say “I was happy when heard about these impeachment announcements for about a minute until I remembered that means Pence will be president.” If the proceedings happen and the president is found to be impeached, procedure is that his standing vice president, in this case Mike Pence, will be handed the job.
While some are in favor of a Pence presidency purely to reduce the embarrassment of what has been coined the “reality star president” many are apprehensive due to Pence’s policies closely following those of Trump himself, and his abilities to actually make larger strides in accomplishing some of those very obscuregoals. One of the biggest groups that would be less than thrilled with a Pence presidency is the LGBTQ Community. It has been made more than clear that Mike Pence is not an LGBTQ supporter, Voting against marriage equality, and for defining marriage as one-man-one-woman. Pence has made it clear he has no intention to support those who take pride in the LGBTQ movement. Like President Trump it is something he has worked to prevent, and would continue to do so if made leader of the free world.
Mike Pence was also a big supporter of the “Mexico Border Wall” Which was a huge part of Donald Trump’s political Campaign. Pence has voted in multiple anti-immigration propositions, and has been part of the fight to reduce illegal immigration, and add restrictions to legal immigration as well. With Mike Pence being in similar stances with President Trump it’s likely that if becoming President Pence would continue with the plans to build a wall just as President Trump had planned. It could also mean a spike in deportations and stricter regulations for those desperately seeking solace in this county. Pence has shown no support for refugees and may possibly continue to make it impossible for them to find refuge in this country.
Among other policies, Mike Pence has shown to be anti-abortion and women’s rights voting against helping with the pay gap stating that “The economy would sort it out.” Vice President Pence has voted to cut education funding, and against sending funds to inner city, Black and Latino schools to help boost their programs and graduation rates. Vice President Pence has also shown disbelief in climate change, and support in gun rights, and supporting homeland security. All of these things people who have issues with Trump’s whitehouse have found to be part of the problem.
While impeaching a president who would rather have his twitter account than credibility as a leader may be the best thing for this country, handing the job to a man with no difference in policies and plans may not be the hail mary that people who are living in frustration and fear are looking for. Whether the White House will proceed with Impeachment is still unclear however if it does there will be some serious issues needing to be addressed before Vice President Pence takes control.
