Immersed In The Word

Why is scripture so important?

As Christians, scripture is one of our most important tools to grow in our faith and relationship with Christ. Psalm 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light on my path” which means that the Bible, God’s word, is a guide for our Christian lives. Without God’s word to direct us in our lives, the world would be a dark place. I think a lot of Christians (including myself) forget how important scripture is to our daily walk in our faith. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of Godmay be thoroughly equipped for every good work” this verse contains three important points about scripture that all Christians need to remember.

Scripture is inspired. All Scripture is God-breathed, this means that all scripture (the entire Bible) comes directly from God. Scripture is quite literally God speaking to us.

Scripture is useful for teaching about God, doctrine, and foundations of our faith. Scripture is also useful for “correction” and “training in righteousness” which means that for those who are Christians, God’s word helps to train us in righteousness, to become more like Christ.

Scripture equips. Knowing scripture helps us face temptations, and the struggles of this world. Knowing what God says in the Bible is true when the world is saying the opposite.

Matthew 4:4 says “But he answered,“It is written,” ‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God’”. The scriptures were life to Moses and food to Jesus. They cannot and must not be anything less to us, they are the very breath of God. When we seek God’s Kingdom, we seek him in everything. The only way to do this is by reading the Bible, praying, and worship (spending time with the Lord). When we are in His will and seeking His Kingdom, God will add to our life and provide for us.

Christ loved us so much that He died for our sins, which He didn’t have to do. Is spending a small part of your day with Him such a sacrifice? No one is perfect, it will take time but, if God is the Lord of your life, pray that He will give you a desire to immerse yourself in scripture daily.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
