It's So Disheartening To See A World Where Peace Is A Dream And Not A Reality

Living in a world full of loss, scarcity, war, and hatred is giving me false hope; and my only hope is that there will one day be peace on earth.

I grew up witnessing a world where greed, wealth, and power brought war and decreased basic human rights while increasing poverty, inequality, world hunger rates, and climate change. This leaves me to question wether there will ever be a world that is wholly at peace. I grew up in an overall safe city in the state of Arizona. I was able to receive an education, have food on my plate every night, have a bed to sleep in, and have the freedom to do as I chose and to live my own life. I grew up with basic rights and needs that I wish every person on earth had as well; though this is not the case for many lives around the globe.

Do you know that there are 795 million people in today's world that are suffering from world hunger? Many men, women, and children in developing countries don't know when they are going to receive their next meal and I'm over here probably overeating more than half of my meals. I feel disgusted, selfish, and sad with how this is the case. If food was evenly distributed throughout the globe, there would no longer be world hunger. And did you know that one of the main causes of hunger is war? And today, we are living in a world where there is oh too much of it.

It's hard to fathom that there are many men and women my age living in the midst of a war in the place that is their home: I can't even imagine. Home is supposed to be a safe place for you and your family, but for many it is not. It's not easy seeing a world that is no longer safe, but it's even harder knowing that young men and women my age and younger are living with violence, loss, and scarcity in their very own backyard. We get so caught up in our daily lives that sometimes we forget that there is such tragedy and loss in today's world. No place on earth is safe anymore, and I wish that wasn't the case.

I feel like our grandparents often remind us that the world they grew up in is not the world it is today. They say "back in my day we could leave our doors unlocked", or "I used to play outside all day without any parental supervision." This is because no one used to worry. We trusted the world so much more back then, but over time this trust faded away. The world used to be safe, at least in a better sense "more trusted." Even in our own walls, our own territory, we have lost trust. It seems like there are never-ending shootings, riots, death, anger, and a sense of distrust within our own government today. I want to see a nation that is happy; I want to know where that happiness disappeared, and I want it back within our country.

I hope there comes a day where I am able to say that world hunger has been abolished, women all over the globe can receive an education in whatever they please, anyone can practice the religion of their choice without ridicule, anyone can love who they want to love, trees will be protected, rather than torn down, and, most of all, a world where there is eternal peace. A world without war. A world without hate. I truly hope there comes a day; I hope this with all my heart today.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
