I’m a white woman and I did not vote for Donald Trump.
Look at this graph, let this just sink in.
I know for a fact that I’m not the only person with deep opinions about the results of this election. I know I’m not the only person who feels disappointed and I know I’m not the only person that has something to say. But hear me out.
I’m a white woman and I did not vote for Donald Trump. I am disgusted. I am completely heartbroken that our nation has elected a leader that is everything we have fought so hard NOT to become. I have never been more ashamed to call myself an American this week. We were once seen as a country making progress, now we are seen as a hateful country that is taking steps backward.
I am a white woman and I did not vote for Donald Trump. He did not win this election. Racism, sexism, xenophobia and bigotry won this election based solely on the fact that America is filled with hatred. A man had the courage to speak what the majority of the country was afraid to say out loud…and he won. How?
I am a white woman and I did not vote for Donald Trump. How could I? After he insulted my friends who are women; who are black, Muslim, gay, lesbian and Hispanic. How could I bring myself to respect and vote for a man who stands solely on hatred, bullying and terror?
I want to respect leaders. I want to respect those people that put the country first and think solely about the safety of our people. But I cannot bring myself to respect this man, and that is sad.
With him as president, I do not feel safe. And I am terrified for my Muslim friends who are scared to walk outside and go to class. I am terrified for my LGBT friends who are afraid they will lose their rights to equality. I’m scared for women everywhere who will now be represented in a country run by a man who thinks sexual abuse is okay. This is not who what America should be. We are not like this. We were once known as the “Land of Opportunity,” what happened?
I don’t want to be scared in my own country, but I am terrified.
We just have to hope that he does his job. Complaining is not going to accomplish anything, we just need to work together to ensure that this country is tied together through love.
To everyone who fears the future, please understand that I am with you. No matter the color of your skin, who you love and the religion you practice, this country is not going down without a fight. We can’t let one individual dictate how we live in this country. The fear and hatred we hold in our hearts will only get stronger unless we work together to spread love. Love Trumps Hate.
And to those individuals, who want to make the effort to move away, just hear me out; I am not leaving. I am staying right here, working hard these next four years to ensure that we are NEVER to elect someone like this man ever again. I want you to stay with me and fight for our right to equality and justice. We as a nation need to move forward, not backwards. You have to stay here and help us take back what is ours. Everyone deserves a chance for freedom and to feel comfortable with his or her life choices. Don’t leave to Canada and leave us to fend for ourselves. The more we stick together, the safer we will feel. Love Trumps Hate. Love Trumps Hate. Love Trumps Hate.
