I'm A Sticky Notes Girl

Another note to remind me, to help me stay on track.

What does that even mean? I might have totally just made that up, but for me, it’s the best way for me to explain it. Altogether, I am a very forgetful person. I usually remember the big things, but as a busy college student it is so easy for me to forget all the little assignments, activities, and things that I have to do on a daily basis.

So my solution and life saving habit I started doing was leaving sticky notes around to remember things. Yes, some are literal sticky notes, but most of the time my reminder notes are just in the “Sticky Notes” app on my laptop. It’s the first thing that I see every time I open my laptop up and that keeps me on track.

Inside my notes are school to-do lists, personal to-do lists, grocery lists, event reminders, and about a dozen other things tied together into one convenient spot for me to look at every time I try to blow off work or important things to watch Netflix instead. It always catches me and reminds me of my deadlines and important things I need to do.

I would quite honestly be completely lost without the half dozen sticky notes lining my computer screen, my planner, and my living space. I keep (several) calendars too, but there’s something about the specific details I can add to sticky notes that I can’t add to a calendar or planner that just makes me remember so much better. I only pull out my planner every so often during the day, but my laptop, I am on it all the time which means that I can see my handy reminders constantly.

Just because I am forgetful doesn’t mean that I am a slacker or a procrastinator. I mean I am, but not because I am forgetful. My silly memory problems almost make me quirkily odd, much to the humor of my friends when I shamefully have to get them to remind me about all sorts of things.

My sticky notes keep me focused. I would be a hot mess without them keeping me on top of things. I love my little sticky notes. I love the accomplishing feeling of finally completing everything on that particular note and the swift moment that I can delete that note. It’s a little unnerving when I don’t have anything up on my notes, usually during a slow period where nothing is really going on. But before I know it, I have the half dozen sticky notes backup on my screen and I’m running on track again.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
