I'm Not "With Her" or "Him"

You should know your candidate before pledging yourself to them

Social media is blessed with countless hashtags and it's no doubt that someone had to start one for Hilary Clinton. That's fine and all, but do you know what weight that carries when you post that? Or if you post that you're with any other candidate for that matter. I think you should refer to my earlier article "I'm At A Loss" for why I am making this argument. It is my opinion that I do not find either candidate running in this election fit for president. I'm not the only one though but for some reason, the people in the middle are scoffed at and don't seem to have any clear way to group ourselves. Trump supporters have their hashtags and sayings and Hilary fans have theirs respectively. Where does that put me? Where does that put millions of Americans who also do not like the choices presented to them?

My answer is you do not have to vote for either. I don't know yet whom exactly will receive my vote, if anyone, but it certainly is not Hilary or Donald. People who think that they have to vote for only one of those two candidates are quite mislead. Sure those are the candidates who won the massive popularity contest this year, but does that mean that they are the fittest for presidency? I'll let you decided that. As I mentioned in my previous article I ask all people to please research deeply. Research the backgrounds of your candidate from MULTIPLE SOURCES. FACT CHECK THOSE SOURCES. COMPARE!

Seriously, though, if all you do is read the campaign site of your favorite, then you really do not deserve to say you are with them and back them. Have you even read your opponent's site and list of ideals? Just because they are the only popular person running against the opponent you hate, does not make them qualified! What they have done in their lives, and previous jobs should be what qualifies them. To be fair, Hilary has made some huge mistakes in her government positions and has had some very dark political scandals that somehow got dropped. Trump has done some good things with his businesses and money. He hasn't created a life of all pure evil. The opposite is also true for each candidates' case. Trump has done some horrendous things and Hilary has done some incredible helpful political work.

No matter what happens or who wins, I think that people all over the US need to realize what a presidential election means once that person is in office. Everything that happens before that almost seems like a giant game to me. All these debates and rallies is all nonsense. Those have no effect on who is going to win and what they are going to achieve. What I'm saying is, instead of just watching more nonsense on TV and online and feeding this media monster, I just want people to spend time and actually READ. READ. READ. If you do not know of any negative aspects of your candidate, then you did not do your research. If you don't believe me, I'll say it again. No candidate is perfect. They are human. They have faults. If you dig hard enough you might actually change your mind about how you feel for them. I think if your opinion does change, then that's a good thing. It means you learned something.

To close this political rant, I will leave you with the ending to my previous article because it is just as valid here:

Electing one leader over another will have no effect on making things better or worse. (Unless nuclear annihilation is imminent, all jokes aside.) Some people will choose to believe things are better and others will choose to believe they are worse. The way I see it is that all of that is subjective and the only way to make change is to do it yourself. Now many radicals do this though acts of fear, terror, and violence. Those actions are not going to help anyone. One should make changes that you know will benefit more than yourself. Do things that will bring about happiness for those you care about without hurting someone or putting people down.

So how does one get results? DO STUFF! It won't be easy. It will not happen overnight. It may never amount to something you physically grasp in your hand. So why should you do it? Because actions speak louder than words. This whole article is just words and really doesn't mean much. It's all an opinion. However, if I go and speak at a town meeting, hold a fundraiser, or run to get on my town council, those are actions. Perhaps a friend of mine goes and becomes an educator or social worker, those too are actions. Joining local government offices, police, or recuse forces is also a great endeavor. Organize a charity event and do something that benefits the community on multiple levels. Be the change you wish to see.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
