Odyssey, I'm Not Marching

From a millennial that supports our new President

So, as of last Friday, a change of power occurred in the United States. Friday, our executive branch changed hands in a peaceful manner possible from one person to another. Whether you like it or not, it is official: Donald Trump is now President of the United States. Yet somehow, despite the outcome of our Presidential election and despite the fact that we are a union of various states and a Republican democracy, there are those that continue to protest against our new President and what he stands for or what they have been led to believe what he stands for. As American citizens, they are perfectly in their right to do so albeit peacefully. That’s what the 1st Amendment is for: a right to free speech whether you do it through and expression of your opinion despite what your opposition may believe, a right to worship in any way you want and peacefully assemble (protest). Like I said, if you want to protest our new President, go right ahead, just don’t do anything stupid, like torch someone’s business or injure a cop.

So why am I writing this? Well it’s because I got a certain email from Odyssey asking if I was going to be marching this weekend, like so many of the other content creators in the group. Hell, they were even doing a livestream of it, but that’s not my problem. The problem is by sending this mass email out to everyone, you as an social content platform more than likely sent up a giant middle finger to those that don’t express those kinds of political beliefs. This organization is a melting pot of various peoples from all walks of life. All of us have different backgrounds and beliefs, and while it may baffle some of you, some of us did vote for Trump.

So by making and sending that email, you’ve made your point to me as what kind of “content” you want and I will not have it. So, in regards to your email I received from you on Wednesday January 18, 2017 my answer is no, no I will not be marching this weekend because I stand behind our new President and because, like our last President, I pray that he makes the right decisions and leads our country into prosperity. Maybe next time, think about the views of all of your content creators instead of the voice of the creators that are on one side of the political spectrum.

But now you've gotten me thinking about something. If the email I received is an expression of the views you want your content creators to express within their politically related articles, then I will not stand for it. Like it or not, there are two sides to every coin, and you won't flip your side 100 percent of the time. So, by sending me that email, I guess you could say that you've convinced me to march but not in the manner you apparently want me to. I'm going to fight the beliefs you want me to display, not with marches or riots or protests, but with words, because what greater danger is there to a social content website that allows everyone's views to be shown than such?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
