The empowering truth for all my ladies out there.

I'm Never Going to Be the Girl...
The Bayside Journal

1. Who changes herself to please someone else.

Yes, I know peer pressure is hard to overcome. We have all been there. But honestly, do you want to be like everyone else? I don’t. That’s what creates uniqueness. I am not an ordinary girl or basic. You won’t find a girl like me just anywhere. If someone does not accept your flaws or imperfections and your great qualities, you do not need them in your life. Don’t change for anyone, but for yourself. Be happy. Love your personality, and share it with the world. Not everyone will be graced by your amazingness, so leave your mark before it is too late.

2. With the perfect body.

Now, this is something that I have had trouble coming into good terms with. I have had trouble accepting myself for years. But, I’m ready to accept the truth — I am never going to be the girl with the perfect body. Living in a society that does not accept every single body type is very overwhelming. Which is why many of us young women, and adult women cannot accept ourselves for who we are. Listen — I don’t have a thigh gap, and I’m proud of it. A little tummy, acne and stretch marks, yeah I’ve got them all — just like a million other women in the world. But, you know what? I love myself, and so should you. I am beautiful just the way I am! Be proud of your inner and outer beauty, even though it may be hard sometimes to embrace.

3. Who settles for less than what she deserves.

I am here for a purpose — to fulfill my lifelong dreams. I will not allow anyone to knock me off my feet, preventing me from achieving my goals. In the past, I have let people throw me off of the path to success because of their actions. But, I am not tolerating that any longer. Find people who will cheer you on, as you accomplish things in life. If you do not have a positive influence in my life, I don’t want anything to do with you. Leave. Lastly, if you won’t give me the respect and love that I deserve, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

4. Who relies on someone else to make her happy.

As young women, we need to empower ourselves. I make myself happy. Don’t rely on anyone else to make you smile or laugh. Ladies, you don’t need a guy to make you happy Being single is fun, because you get to hang out with whoever you want to whenever you want to. One less thing you have to commit to. Surround yourself with a positive environment, to influence positive vibes. Hang out with your besties. Do silly faces in the mirror. Dance like no one is watching. Feel invincible as you make yourself happy, girl.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
