You Deserve Better, But It Takes Work

Never settle for mediocre.

Admittedly, I probably spend too much time on Pinterest searching for quotes that define my every feeling. Through this very important and obviously, reliable, research, I have learned one life-changing lesson – never settle. Why force yourself to enjoy a black coffee when you deserve a venti iced, triple shot latte? Think of this piece like a quote on Pinterest, a little bit cheesy, but inspiring, nonetheless and just think, you might even find yourself a sappy Instagram caption.

As a point of reference, if you’re wondering whether or not you deserve better, you do. When someone is treating you the way you deserve to be treated and appreciating your every flaw, you won’t have anything to question. For any of you disgruntled boyfriends out there, this isn’t a personal attack on you. This is just a less-than-friendly reminder that you all deserve the filet mignon of relationships, jobs and drinks.

Think about the one thing that fills your soul with butterflies and puts a smile on your face with a single thought. For me, that’s a brand new Starbucks gift card or a trip to the mall. Aspire to feel this way, always. Find a job that makes you want to do back flips. Surround yourself with friends who support you as much as they make fun of you. Be in a relationship with someone who never thinks you’ve had enough to eat, or at least doesn’t tell you he’s grossed out by you eating a pint of ice cream in a single sitting.

You would be hard-pressed to find someone who treats you well when you don’t make the effort to treat yourself well. If you don’t want to attract fleas, don’t treat yourself like a dog. Carry yourself like a queen and you’ll attract a king. Carry yourself like a boss and you’ll score the job of your dreams. Walk right past the gas station coffee counter and you’ll surely find yourself something better to sip on.

Now ladies, you are not born innately deserving of a Prince Charming and a 100K a year job. You must first kiss a frog. A great person deserves great things, yes, but you must strive to be that great person. Let’s put it this way, you won’t win a trip to Waikiki, if you don’t enter to win. By the same token, you wouldn’t enter to win a free trip to a place you didn’t want to go to. This drawn-out analogy is to say that, if you don’t love yourself the way you should, you can’t expect other people to. But, you shouldn’t go accepting some that’s less than perfect, just because it’s within reach.

You are not doing anyone any favors by settling for less than you deserve. Put forth your best self every day. Project your beautiful energy upon the world and everyone you meet. Most importantly, understand how much you truly deserve and take pride in seeking that.

You’re a top-shelf babe, don’t settle for a well-liquor life.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
