I'd be lying if I said it doesn't hurt to be rejected- it hurts badly. Sometimes we prepare for the worst, but still end up extremely upset. Everyone copes with break-ups differently, and for me, it's only painful when I'm by myself getting ready to close my eyes and sleep. Then, all the memories come back. But instead of looking back at the memories, why shouldn't we look forward to the future and what that holds?
Your life isn't over. Even if it seems like this is the end right now, it's not over. You aren't dying, and you still have many more years before you should be worried about that. Although it can feel like your heart is actually breaking in half, it's not. It's simply just your emotions taking a toll on your physical body, as well as your mind.
Instead of reminiscing on what you loved so much about your relationship, think about all the things you can do now that you're single. It might feel sucky at the beginning, like talking to new people. None of them may act the way you want them to, but don't worry. There's a light at the end of the tunnel, and there is someone out there who is right for you.
Going to places you used to go with your ex can be rough, but instead of going there alone and crying, bring someone new. Make new memories there, but still savor the old ones. Every experience is a learning one, even the ones that hurt to think about.
In the end, break-ups suck. It's an indescribable feeling, and nothing that anyone says is going to make it hurt any less. People may try to console you, but the only person that can make you feel better is yourself. Think about the positive, suppress the negative and you'll get through it. Maybe one day you'll even look back on this moment and laugh. Time heals everything.
