35 Things I'm Grateful For

Start thanking life for all it has to offer.

35 Things I'm Grateful For

When we’re having a bad day or a tough week, we tend to forget about all the little things in life that can make it so incredible. Some things so little that you wouldn’t have thought of before reading this, some things so small that we take for granted that others would give anything for.

So if you need a reminder of the simple things that you are fortunate of experiencing, please keep reading.

  1. Smelling fresh air outside.
  2. The first beach day of the summer.
  3. Finding the perfect candle for each season.
  4. The moment when the sun is setting behind the clouds giving off a warm reddish-yellow color.
  5. Driving with the windows down on a fall day.
  6. The smell of camp fire.
  7. An ice cold water after being outside in the hot sun.
  8. The day after you finally get over the cold you’ve been battling for a week.
  9. The satisfying feeling of eating a big meal after being so hungry.
  10. Hearing a great new song on the radio then listening to it 20 times a day until you memorize every word.
  11. The moment you are at a concert and the artist you’re here for steps out on stage.
  12. Organizing your shoes.
  13. Looking at your bed after it has been made.
  14. Washing your face.
  15. The relieving feeling after a great work out.
  16. When you laugh so hard, you start to cry and your stomach starts to knot.
  17. Telling someone you love, that you love them.
  18. Finishing a book.
  19. Watching a great movie.
  20. Going on a great first date.
  21. Kissing.
  22. Taking a hot shower after playing in the snow.
  23. Making an awesome ice cream sundae.
  24. Clocking out after a long day at work.
  25. Your favorite food.
  26. Putting on Chap Stick.
  27. Finishing a paper.
  28. Sleeping.
  29. Giving someone a gift.
  30. Taking off your shoes.
  31. Putting clean clothes on after a shower.
  32. Hitting snooze.
  33. Getting free shipping.
  34. The smell of homemade soup.
  35. Seeing pictures of puppies.

I know these seem silly but we spend so much of our lives stressing over the what if’s and the things we don’t have, we often forget how lucky we are to have what we have and to feel the things we feel. For example, when someone is super hungry, they often say, “Oh my, I am starving,” but many of us who say that don’t actually know what it means to be physically starving, whereas there are many people who do know that feeling and sadly experience it frequently. We’re all guilty of it, including myself.

Someone recently told me that we forget about our senses -- we take them for granted. What we need to do more of is appreciate the fact that we have the ability to breathe in fresh air, smell different scents, taste different foods and hear different sounds.

My point is this: the next time something bad happens, try to remind yourself of all the good that surrounds you. Maybe, just maybe, that will help make the weight a little lighter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
