I'm Going To Die In A Crosswalk

Living off-campus is pretty close to every college students dream. Having an apartment, or townhouse to call your own give you a sense of adulthood. Like this is what its gonna be like once you graduate.

Although with all the perks of living off-campus there are some downsides. If you're like me you don't drive and walk everywhere while you're at college. My townhouse is barely a block away from campus which makes it very convent until it comes time to cross the street.

There are crosswalk buttons at both of the crosswalks that lead to and from the townhouse complex. These buttons trigger yellow flashing lights that are above a crosswalk sign. This whole system is designed to notify nearby drivers that there is some about to cross the street, is crossing the street, or just crossed the street.

The strange thing is, no one seems to care about what these yellow flashing lights mean. I have watched numerous cars to blow through the crosswalk while these lights were flashing. Not to mention the times that I or my friends were already in the crosswalk. Cars will speed up so they don't have to stop.

It amazes me that drivers would rather risk hitting a student than to slow down and pay a bit more attention while driving around the University. I realize you have places to go, and you want to get to your destination as quickly as possible, or maybe you're running late. But I would like to get to where I'm going safely and without the threat of being hit by a car in a crosswalk.

As a person that drives you have a level of responsibility. I think many drivers especially those who have been driving for a long time, forget about this responsibility. Not only to keep those in you're car safe but also to cause no harm to those around your car.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
