I came to college with a faint idea of who I was. I was a bit of an anomaly because I loved high school. I was in several clubs, had officer positions, got the grades, worked part time jobs, and had a passion for theatre on the side. In short, I was that girl; the one who did it all. And I was happy. So, while I was excited for a fresh start in college, it made me nervous to leave it all behind. I knew exactly where my place in that community was and couldn’t help but wonder if I would find it here.
And believe me, I did. But it took some time.
I took a leap of faith and came to school as a theatre major, a decision I do not regret. While I met some incredible individuals, life changing professors, and laughed the hardest I ever have, I knew it wasn’t right for me.
So sophomore year, I decided to go greek. And it is a choice I have thanked myself for every day since.
By joining greek life, I met some of the most welcoming, fun, forgiving, and compassionate people you could ever know. The girls in my sorority not only dedicate themselves to their sisterhood, but also to business fraternities, community service groups, religious organizations, and club & varsity sports (just to name a few!).
A common misconception about sororities is that they can be catty. This could not be further from the truth. These girls are head-over-heels in love with their philanthropies and strive to make the biggest difference they can, even in the smallest ways. They are thinkers, doers, and artists. It took all of one week to find my best friends for life. They accept me for my faults, forgive me for my mistakes, and love me for all my quirks and idiosyncrasies. I found people to learn from and grow with. But more than that, I found a place where I can truly be myself, surrounded by people who constantly love and support me.
This group of young women has taught me that I have a purpose to serve others in every way, shape, and form imaginable. They continuously inspire me to be the best version of myself. So for every taco bell run, delivery pizza, surprise note of encouragement, ugly snapchat, for every seat at a crowded carrier table during finals week, every face time, every all-nighter, every laugh, hug, and tear, thank you.
I found my place here. You will too. GO GREEK!
