I'm Glad Chivalry Is Dead

I'm glad chivalry is dead. Waging endless war against the infidels gets tiring and sometimes I want to kick back in my slippers and watch "Orange Is the New Black".

There, I made the mandatory "Chivalry was an ancient code of combat" joke are you happy? Can I continue?

As I'm sure we've all heard at some point "Chivalry is dead. There are no real men anymore. Blah blah blah blah blah." Well allow me to shed some light on why this is a good thing.

First off, sorry to break any bubbles, but the general male population will more or less meld into whatever culture women deem acceptable for dating. 60 years ago it was being a straight edged bread winner, 40 years ago it was about being a counter- cultural rebel, and now it's about being a loud, peacock-ing tool and that's not our fault. I guarantee you that if tomorrow, every single woman decided that they would only start dating bookish introverts then every single tank top wearing frat bro would immediately ditch his attire and attitude for a poetry book and turtleneck. The problem with that said scenario though is it wouldn't be real. How does a girl tell whether the shy introverted guy that was the decided upon ideal man was a real shy introvert or just some dude melding with society in order to be attractive to women?

True there was a time when chivalrous acts were considered the normal standard for men but the truth is there were a lot more fake chivalry. Men held doors because it's what got them a second date, men bought flowers because it got them a kiss, men stood up for their woman because it got them into bed. Not because any of those things were the right thing to do, but because there was an ulterior goal.

However, and here's where it matters ladies, you should be rejoicing that chivalry is dead because that means it's no longer the norm. So when you meet a guy that gives you flowers, holds open doors, and stands up for you it's not for some ulterior societal motive. What you found is true blue honest to goodness chivalry and although it may be harder to find, that's because there's a lot less fakers out there.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
