I'm A Girl, But I Am Not...

Modern day girls are escaping their labels of the past.

I'm A Girl, But I Am Not...

Girls are constantly being labeled. Throughout a girl's life, she will be called things such as a slut, a bitch, needy, annoying, and so much more. It's time to end the labels. It's time to be who you want to be and not have to worry about being labeled. Here's for all those girls who are or will be labeled in their lifetimes. You are so much more than what people see.

I am a girl, but I am not…

1. Afraid to speak my mind.

No, I am not afraid to tell you when you are wrong or to speak up when I know better. I am independent and strong enough not to stay quiet when I have something to say.

2. “Just PMSing.”

Every time I’m upset or mad, I am not on my period. It’s not a funny joke, and I am allowed to have feelings without it being due to PMS.

3. Aiming for societies standards of beauty.

I do not aspire to be the girls in the magazines. I will not starve myself for a thin waist like the models. I am content with who I am and the way I look.

4. Limited to certain jobs.

I am not limited to being a stay at home mom, although that is a hard task in itself. I will not be responsible for all cleaning and cooking just because I am a woman; I will work long and hard days if that is what I want to do. I can aspire to any profession.

5. Weak.

I may not look strong, but I am. I may cry when I get upset, but do not mistake those tears for weakness.

6. Trying to impress men.

I may dress up, put makeup on, buy new clothes or new perfume, but it is not to impress men. It’s for myself.

7. Easy.

Just because you have heard certain things does not mean I am a slut. Just because I have had a few boyfriends does not mean that I should think of myself as easy.

8. A sex object.

No one can use me for my body. I am my own person and have a right to say no.

9. Inferior.

Despite what you think, being a woman does not make me inferior. In most cases, I am superior.

10. Any less intelligent than a man.

Do not think that just because I am a woman that I am not intelligent. I may say some stupid things, but I can also have an hour-long discussion with you on just about any subject.

11. Defined by my appearance.

I may not be a size 0 in jeans, but trust me, that is not what is important. I may not have thick, luscious hair, but I am content with what I do have. I do not need to be someone else’s version of “beautiful” in order to recognize the beauty within myself.

12. In need of a man to rely on.

I am not dependent on anyone or anything. I do not need a significant other in order to feel whole. I am my own person and independent.

I am a girl, and I am living above your stereotypes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
