Nobody expected the outcome of the 2016 United States Presidential election, no one. At the beginning, most thought Trump running for President was all a joke. Later into the election, people still thought it was a joke, at least the people I talked to. When it came down to Hillary and Trump, I wasn’t thrilled about either but I was for sure that Hilary was going to win. I mean how could TRUMP possibly win?
Election night, my entire floor was a hot mess. As soon as it was announced that Trump had won the election, we all cried. We cried for all of the women in our lives, for the LGBTQ community and for all the immigrants. I immediately thought that it would be the darkest day in United States history. That thought I had, wasn’t fair. As of that moment, Trump hadn’t done anything to make me think that.
In the time since it was announced that Trump would, in fact, be our 45th President, I’ve had a lot of time to think. Was I mad when Trump first got elected? Hell yeah, I was! Did I think he was going to do horrible things for our country? Yes, ma’am. I’ll even go as far as to say that I hoped he would do horrible things for our country just to prove everyone who voted for him wrong. Then I thought, why in the world would I want our President to do horrible things for our country? That’s just crazy.
I began to get annoyed with my friends who continuously talked about wanting Trump to fail. Wanting Trump to fail is like saying you want the pilot of an airplane to crash just because you don’t like him. As Americans, we are all in this together. We are all on this airplane together and if we are going to survive the next four years, then we need to have faith in our President. Who knows? Maybe Trump will surprise us all and become one of the best Presidents our country has ever had. We need to stand together and believe in God’s plan for us and for our country.
So yes, I admit it, I do want Trump to succeed. I want Trump to do amazing things for our country. I want Trump to prove me wrong and impress me with all that he does for the people. To all my fellow Democrats who still don't want Trump to succeed, my only question is why would you wish that upon yourself and your loved ones? Please, think again when you say “Trump is not my President,” because he is and he will be for the next four years. Think again when you think you want Trump to fail, do you really want to live in a broken country? I know I don’t.
