My heart is so burdened for my future children; specifically, my daughters. I am afraid for her generation of women, who will grow up hearing things that I never heard and seeing things that would've made my ten-year-old self cover my eyes and cry. How are we supposed to raise respectable Christian women in a society that tells young girls that it's okay to dress like this:
This is not okay. I am all for girl power and girls wearing shorts and tank tops, but this is absolutely unacceptable. How am I supposed to raise a daughter in a world where her role models have had multiple plastic surgeries by the age of 18, and where the same people are praised and worshiped as if they found the cure for cancer? People post pictures of these girls with captions that say they are "goals" and "queens." What happened to modesty? How about self-respect?
I've focused on images of Miley Cyrus because, when growing up, I was a huge fan of her's. I was a fan of her in her "Hannah Montana" days. I was a fan of her in her "Party In the USA" days. I even stuck by her when people said she was losing it. But she has gone too far.
It's not just about her aesthetic. I even stuck with her after the hair chop, a fashion choice I did not personally agree with, because she still held herself to a higher standard.
I tried so hard to stay a fan, but her performance at the VMAs just put me over the edge. From the outfits showing off all of her skin, to singing a song about her love for pot, to making comments about (pregnant) Kim Kardashian's breasts, I just cannot and will not stand it.
When I am a mother, I will make sure my daughter knows how wrong this is, that this is no way to show off, and how there are so many other ways to be beautiful and feminine without showing everyone your feminine parts.
Proverbs 31:30 says "Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is greatly praised."
THIS is how I will raise my daughter. THIS is how I will live out being a mother. THIS is how I hope my generation will raise up their daughters to live.
Also, thank you to the celebs who live this out and who are classy, respectable, and genuine role models; you are awesome:
