In reality, I am absolutely "all about that bass." Standing at five feet tall, my bottom portion definitely stands thicker than the rest of me, and I have very little problem with that.
The first time I heard Meghan Trainor's most popular song, All About That Bass, my feet started movin'. I was jiggling along in my seat within the first few notes, and after I found out what the song actually was about, I was like, Seriously, anything that has to do with rocking the booty is my type of song. I'm thick and proud and will gladly support any song that allows me to sing it to the world.
But of course, because for some reason thicker girls can never have any sort of gratification when it comes to celebrating their bodies, some skinny bitches had to come and take away our fun.
I'm totally kidding...
But, In case you have no clue what I'm talking about, there has been constant backlash about Trainor's music, claiming it is disrespecting women who are thinner and trying to make others think being bigger is "better."
No.
Honestly, with all of the tabloids and constant pressure on celebrities and normal every day people to be thin, why is it when a song speaks highly of curvy women it gets shut down? By speaking negatively about this song, you are not only putting down the women who feel comfortable in their "thicker" skin, but you are insinuating that it is unacceptable to be proud of the type of body they have for the fear of hurting others who do not look like them. Or maybe you're saying that being thicker is not something to be proud of in the first place.
No matter what movement you stand for, one way or another, there are going to be others out there that think differently than you. Besides, did you ever think that perhaps, the reason this song was created was to ensure that women around the world would be able to feel comfortable in their own skin despite the constant pressures of society to maintain the thinner look.
Instead of blaming Trainor for making thin girls feel insecure because they have "less" booty to hold at night, or whatever, how about discussing why she had to make this song in the first place. Perhaps instead of claiming she is insensitive to the young, thin girls in the world, look at how many young, bigger girls she is inspiring and telling them that their body is beautiful as it is.
Every day there are images of women who are held up as the most beautiful women in the world, and they are almost always completely stick thin. Magazines, websites, advertisements, even on social media, everywhere society turns we are subjected to images of thin women and expected to gawk at them and idolize them.
Yet, despite the endless pressure to be thin in this society, Meghan Trainor does not discourage girls, she helps enlighten them to how fun it is to be confident, no matter what their size and helps them understand that every inch of their body is perfect from their (bigger or smaller) bottom to the top ... (Ha, see what I did there?)
I strongly stand beside Meghan Trainor as she flaunts her stuff, because being confident and loving your body despite the size on your tag is something absolutely everyone can learn from.
