I'm 21 And Don't Have My Whole Life Planned Out

I'm 21 And Don't Have My Whole Life Planned Out

Dear College Kid,

This might sound a little familiar, right?

So yeah, I'm 21. Yes, I have a boyfriend, and no, we aren't getting married, moving in together, or having babies within the next two months. Yes, I'm going to be a teacher. No, I do not have any idea where. Yes, I want to coach soccer, and yeah, I have a final next week.

You may be feeling the same way I am, and that's OK.

I get asked so often what I planed to do with my life, and I honestly HAVE NOT EVEN DECIDED WHAT I'M EATING FOR LUNCH. So, no, I do not have my whole life planned out.

Now I know some 21 year olds know that they will take over daddy's company, be set for life, and probably already have their husband or wife picked out. I however, don't even know what my plans for the weekend are.

I do have an idea of what I want to do with my life, but I do not have it all planned out. Especially not at 21. I like to think I will have it together by graduation, but right now I am just trying to survive on chocolate and broccoli (because that's all I have left in my house).

So this is for all you people like me, it is OK to not know what your future holds. It is OK when that badgering aunt asks you every detail of every aspect of your life, to simply say, "I don't know" and give her a smile. It is OK to not have it all planned out.

I like to think I'll graduate, work, get married, do mission work, and have babies, but no I do not have it all planned out. And yes...this does drive me crazy because I am type A and like to plan everything.... usually. I carry my planner everywhere and always know what I have to do next on my list, but to be honest, thinking and trying to plan my future is a waste.

I have no idea what is in store for me tomorrow. Something could happen that changes my life forever.

So I say this to you, you 21-year-old college kid, it is more than OK to not have your life planned out. Read, go hiking, watch TV, play tennis, do something fun because tomorrow is not promised, and your future will never be mapped out perfectly.

Sincerely,

Another 21 Year Old Who Doesn't Have It Planned Out

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
