When applying to schools, students usually look at things like GPA requirement, academics, distance from home, the basics. I did the exact same when applying and eventually choosing Belmont University. While yes, those things are important and should decide where you go, if you’re like me, you’re nit-picky about everything and need to know the details. Now I’ve only been at Belmont for a semester so I may not be the best person to be writing about this. And don’t get me wrong- I love Belmont and I wake up everyday thankful that I get to attend such a beautiful and accomplished school. However, there’s definitely things unsaid online and on tours for Belmont. Anyway, here’s a list of everything you should know if you’re picky and applying to Belmont.
1. Food
There’s not many food places on campus besides the dining hall. State schools usually have big food courts with fast food restaurants. Belmont has two main chain restaurants on campus: Chick-Fil-A and McAllister’s Deli. There’s also Sandella’s which is like panini’s and then Toss, a salad bar in the corner court. Other than those, you’re most likely going to be eating at the Caf, which is another story.
2. The Caf
The only good thing is the sandwich line, fries, and the biscuits and gravy. Besides that, you can wait in the hour-long stir-fry line or settle for wet pasta.
3. The library
Depending on where you live, the “Club Lila” may be very far away from you. This is super inconvenient if you don’t have a printer BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PRINT and walk all the way to the library before your 8 a.m. class.
4. Greek life
I’m not calling this a negative at all, but if you’re imagining what greek life is at normal colleges, Belmont isn’t it. Belmont greek life isn’t the partying and craziness that it is at state schools. There’s a huge emphasis on brotherhood/sisterhood and service. If this is appealing to you, you should definitely join a fraternity or a sorority.
5. The city
The city of Nashville is amazing and there’s always so much to do but if you don’t have a car on campus, you’re going to have to Uber everywhere other than 12th South and 21st.
6. You’re major
A ton of students are music business majors or something related. Since Belmont puts a huge emphasis on their music students, you’re kind of looked over if you’re a major like Motion Pictures or Mass Communications.
I’ve pointed out just a few things that are unsaid about Belmont University. Like I said before, Belmont is an amazing schools and anyone who comes here is so privileged and lucky they get to attend this school. The positives definitely outweigh the negatives here.
